Reiki is derived from ancient healing methods based on the laying on of hands. The word Reiki means universal energy. The practice of Reiki works with and balances this universal energy, which is inherent in all living things. As long as life is present, Reiki flows. The practice of Reiki is non-invasive; it amplifies other healing modalities and methods. It is complementary and works in harmony with other treatments, both traditional and alternative. It does not interfere or cause harm.

Universal energy does not originate in living beings. It is cosmic, like Chi or Prana. It is always around us and within us. Reiki practitioners guide the universal energy in their clients so that it is balanced, replenished, or
diminished; healing occurs through this balancing of energy.

Reiki is useful for symptom relief; it also enhances a person's energy, performance, creativity, insight, peace of mind, and personal and spiritual growth. It is an excellent tool for stress reduction.

Reiki is not a cure-all or a miracle cure. It is no more or less effective than other forms of conventional, traditional, or alternative healing.

Reiki can be provided in person or at a distance. It can be administered with a hands-on or hands-off approach. It is non-invasive and does not require disrobing by the client.

Reiki does not deplete the energy of the practitioner, since it involves channeling energy from outside the body, i.e., universal energy. Therefore, it is restorative to the healer and the person being healed. Furthermore, Reiki can be self-administered, as well as given to others by the practitioner.
